What inspired you to become a musician?
I grew up surrounded by music – it was a huge thing in my family – with Church – especially in my culture – Music really brings us all together.
Who is your favourite/inspiring artist and why?
Michael Jackson was a huge influence in my life growing up – when I was a kid I had a cassette player in my room. It was my escape from the world.
Who is your go-to artist or what is your go-to playlist on spotify?
At the moment I’m listening to Sam Wills – Chill soulful falsetto vibes for days.
Also reminds me of my good mate local Newy Artist Cormac Grant. This guy is go’n blow up!
First concert that made the biggest impression?
First Concert was Boyz To Men – what else can I say – met them backstage – vocal gods I try to be, but I am not worthy.
Most amazing gig moment you’ve had?
Singing the NZ National anthem at McDonalds Jones Stadium live on TV for the Knights Anzac Game. The most nervous I’ve ever been.
Most embarrassing gig moment you’ve had?
Was feeling crook one gig and I think I tried to hit a high note and it sounded like a dead cat – and the band was in stitches – lucky the crowd didn’t notice haha
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m working on my original music. I’m in the studio at the moment recording my EP at S&M Productions with Matt Mclaren. Co writing some tracks with Nick Gill and just taking my time creating. COVID has definitely put a damper on things / lockdown etc but it’s made me take my time. I’m in no rush.
What is the career milestone you have reached so far that got you really excited?
For years I’ve done projects for other artists – session music work etc and I never took myself seriously as an Artist. So when I released my first single – I was so proud of having my name attached to something. I’m learning to self care and put myself first – I’ve worked so hard to get where I am right now – This is my time. ( drum roll* )
What other milestones are you aiming to reach?
Record and Album, Win a Grammy,
Also I have an idea of combining all of Newcastle Artists for a
“ We are the world “ type of thing. Someone @ me if you want to get the ball rolling haha.
