Why music?
Music has been in my family for generations. Growing up watching Legendary artists had a big impact on me – I wanted to be like them. People underestimate the power of music. It can change people’s feelings , emotions , could even change the world – one note at a time 🎵
Favourite artist and why?
Michael Jackson. I don’t think I need to tell you why. His music will live forever through many generations to come. THATS the power he has and what SO many artists strive for. He’s my hero.
Favourite local artist/Why?
I have many favorite local artists. With Newcastle being a small place I get to work with amazing local Talents such as Jerome Occonor – CrocQ & Kylie Jane. Olivia Kolo is a threat in the game those pipes are crazy! Also Worked on projects with Hurricane Fall – I love collaborating with other artists because we all bring something new to the table.
First concert you went to?
I actually don’t remember to be honest. Didn’t have much money growing up so I never went to concerts but my All time one I remember is seeing Boyz To Men. When you get lost in a moment hearing and seeing your childhood discman / Walkman come to life – LIVE in front of you – I was in music heaven lol. Wanya in the group is a vocal icon that I worship.
First album you listened to?
Michael Jackson ‘Off The Wall’
Mum had the cassette collection and I would have it playing morning, noon & night. Learning piano growing up, I would listen to all of the structures – keys, harmonies and riffs – and work out how to play all the songs by ear. That’s where my voice came from.
Most amazing gig moment?
Over 10 years ago I emailed the Newcastle Knights Office to ask if I could perform the Australian National Anthem at a home game, and sadly didn’t get a response. Growing up, our family have been diehard Knights fans and it was a dream to perform there on home turf for my fave team – just last year I got the chance. I think if you work hard enough you’ll be in the right place and the right time. It was definitely a dream come true.
Most embarrassing gig moment?
When I had to sing a Bridal Waltz first dance from an iPod track and the track stopped 27 seconds in …. not just once … twice ! We had to stream it from Youtube!
4 musicians you would sit down for dinner with, dead or alive?
Beyoncé
Michael Jackson
Bruno Mars
Whitney Houston
One thing you would like to see in Newcastle that isn’t here now?
More live venues! A brand new upgraded Entertainment Centre. We have the most beautiful city and so much talent. We deserve a new venue to showcase talent and also attract bigger artists instead of taking our money to Sydney and the Hunter Valley. Let’s keep it in the heart of the City!
