Meet Love That Hat
Featuring some of Newcastle’s most seasoned performers, Love That Hat brings together a wealth of local music history and undeniable onstage chemistry. Fronted by Sue — a classically trained vocalist and multi-instrumentalist known for her work with Sligo Maid and Killkenny — the band is anchored by a performer whose talent and versatility have long made her a standout on the local circuit, including a Best Female Vocalist win at the 1233 ABC Newcastle Music Awards.
She’s joined by Dave Carter, a prolific multi-instrumentalist with decades of experience across the region’s music scene, and Mikey, a respected figure known for his work with acts like Swanee and The Funbusters, where his distinctive stage presence first made its mark. Together, the trio blends deep musical pedigree with a shared instinct for entertainment.
The result is a show that leans into both nostalgia and fun — mixing crowd-pleasing classics with left-of-centre gems, delivered with humour, energy and musicianship that keeps audiences engaged from the first note to the last.

The booking process was easy. The information on how the process went was informative and made our day run so much better. From how payments were due to the run schedule for the day. Asking which songs we would like for moments along the way , just helped us think about things, well we hadn’t thought of. As for the band, well a few friends said don’t spend money on a band. Just play music on the venue speakers, others said just get a kid on a guitar. No offence to the guitar players out there. We both wanted a wedding that was a celebration, and that’s what we got with Love That Hat. From a violin to get me down the aisle, (I almost cried on how beautiful that was ) to the life and joy that this band brought. Guests are still talking about what a great night. That they hadn’t danced like that in 20 years. There was no one sitting down. Everyone up , smiling, laughing, enjoying what that band brought to our wedding was priceless. Love That Hat, I can’t thank enough.
