How to Avoid Getting “The Wedding Singer” At Your Event

Planning a corporate function, wedding or private party? We’ve got your back to ensure you get the right entertainment for your next event!

If there’s one thing to remember in planning any type of event – it’s that the overall success is a result of organisation & detail. Your attendees will link your brand to the experience, so you want it to be unforgettable (for the right reasons!). Entertainment is a huge part of the experience.  Guests will forget whether they had the chicken or the beef but they won’t forget the band who performed every request. The only thing more important than entertainment, is choosing the RIGHT entertainment for your event.

Who are you entertaining?

When starting to think about your function entertainment, ask yourself:
What is the age demographic?
What are their interests?
Are they a more reserved group or are they ready to celebrate a big achievement?

If you hire a band who only perform 70’s hits and the room is filled with 20-30 year olds, you probably haven’t chosen the right entertainment for your function & more than likely, guests won’t enjoy their experience.

Take it from us, there is plenty of entertainment options out there that are a perfect fit for your event. Want to lighten the mood? Try a comedian or roving magician!
Want your crowd up and dancing after their conference dinner? Book a band with a vast repertoire of older and newer music. Want background music while your guests are arriving? Book a soloist or instrumentalist.

What is suitable for the venue?

Venues sometimes have restrictions around noise, time, space and safety. Be sure to speak to your venue about your ideas and what is possible. For example, a fire twirler is an amazing spectacle at an outdoor event, but are they able to perform inside the restaurant you have booked?

Think about the space and what entertainment option is the best fit. You don’t want for the band you have booked to arrive on the night, only to be crammed into a small corner. If you do have a small function space organised, a soloist could be the most suitable option. Soloists are also perfect for smaller crowds as they can connect with the audience more personally and don’t require a lot of space.

Check if your venue has a closing time so you can ensure you account for this in your run sheet. The last thing you want is for the venue to shut down your band midway through a set.

What is your budget?

When you enquire about function entertainment, be upfront regarding your budget and ask for appropriate options within that price range. There’s always the option of having a duo instead of a full band, employing a magician for only the first part of the night instead of having them waiting onsite whilst you are having formalities. Be realistic and think about exactly what you want to achieve.

We want your event to be memorable

Once the organising is over, you get to reap the reward of watching your guests be entertained as your plans come to fruition. You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression, so make sure your entertainment is set to impress.
